Welcome Letter (1)

 7th and 8th Grade Expectations

It is a pleasure to have your child in our classes this year.  We are looking forward to an exciting year. We are sure that each student will find seventh and eighth grade a challenging and fun experience.

One of our goals is to promote student responsibility.  Responsibility is not innate in every child, but is a teachable skill.  Our expectation for each student includes maintaining their agenda and Responsibility Cards, so that you are aware of what your child is learning daily, completing daily  assignments, and behaving in a self-controlled manner.

As a class we have discussed our school rules, classroom procedures, Soaring Eagle Matrix, and created a mission statement.  Please sign and return the bottom portion of this letter indicating that you and your child are aware of the homeroom rules and expectations.

If you have any questions or concerns during the year, please do not hesitate to email me.  Thank you for your support and cooperation in making this the best possible year for your child.

Entering the Classroom

Line-up outside the door and have RC out.  Watch for *Attention Signal.  When you are quiet and in line, you will be allowed to enter the classroom. You should be prepared for class and ready to learn. Quickly fill in your agenda and be prepared to start your assignment/bell work.

Attention Signal

*When teacher signals for your attention, you will stop what you are doing, and you stop talking. If you fail to do so, you will receive an infraction on your Responsibility Card.

Starting Class

As soon as you come into the class,  you are to take a seat, put your RC on your desk, and follow teacher instructions.  The beginning of class should flow smoothly, as these procedures will be followed everyday. Watch for  *Attention Signal.

 Completing Daily Work

You are expected to participate in class discussions, group discussions and partner discussions.  You are expected to be respectful to the teacher, your peers and yourself when completing work.  Do not distract others from learning.  You have no right to infringe on someone else’s learning nor distract the teacher from doing their job-teaching.

 Missing/Late Work

You are responsible for any work you have missed due to absences.  However many days you are absent is how many days you have to complete and turn in your work.  You are responsible for remembering to pick up your missing work.  Grading is as follows:

On time-full credit

24 hours late-80% is highest grade given

28 hours late-60% is highest grade given

72 hours late or more

40% is highest grade given.

Technology Expectations

You will quietly check out your chromebook and check in your cell phone if you choose to bring it to school.  We will not touch your chromebook or your cell phone and neither should anyone else.  Your issued chromebook will be yours throughout the year and no else should ever be in possession of it.

You are to treat your chromebooks with respect.  Your technology privileges will be revoked if you do not adhere to the technology agreement form.

 Leaving the Classroom

If you need to leave the classroom to go to the bathroom or visit the nurse you must first have permission to leave and a pass.  Your pass is your Responsibility Card.  You must sign out on the sheet at the back of the room before leaving the classroom.  Only one student will be allowed to go to the restroom at a time.  Do not interrupt the lesson to ask to go to the restroom unless it is an absolute emergency.

 Ending Class

Watch for *Attention Signal. Make sure your area is organized and free of trash.  Stand quietly behind your pushed in chair and wait until we dismiss you.   For homeroom, all chromebooks  will be placed back into the chromebook case and your personal cell phones will be retrieved at the end of the day.
