Jump Rope for Heart

Dear Parents,

As you may know, Desert Thunder School is participating in Jump Rope For Heart. Since 1978 Jump Rope For Heart has been raising funds to help the American Heart Association support lifesaving research and educational programs. Millions of students have participated in this fun-filled event that combines fundraising with learning about the importance of heart-healthy habits.

The American Heart Association is committed to improving heart health in your community and across the country. In fact, it’s our national goal: By 2020 to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.

In addition to funding cutting-edge research, we train millions of people every year in CPR and in the use of automated external defibrillators, work with hospitals to improve the quality of patient care, advocate for smoke-free air and other health issues, and provide educational tools to help you make healthier lifestyle choices.

How has the AHA touched your life? Here are just a few examples that we helped make happen:

·         Smoke-free ordinances that protect you from secondhand smoke in restaurants, workplaces, bowling alleys, airports and other settings.

·         Food labels that guide you in the purchase of healthy foods in the grocery store.

·         CPR training that could save the life of a friend, family member, loved one or neighbor.

·         Golf courses, shopping malls, airports and other locations that are ready to respond to cardiac emergencies with automated external defibrillators.

·         Safe schools that are ready to respond to cardiac or other medical emergencies thanks to the Medical Emergency Response Plan for Schools.

·         Advanced cardiac procedures such as open-heart surgery and the placement of artificial valves, pacemakers and drug-eluting stents.

Thank you for considering supporting your child in Jump Rope For Heart and helping us in our work to help all Americans enjoy a better quality of life.

Sincerely,

The American Heart Association & Desert Thunder School
