Medications

If medications are to be given to your child at school, please meet the following requirements:

  • There must be written permission from the parent to allow the appropriate staff member to administer medicine.

     

  • Prescription Medications must be delivered to the school Health Center by the parent or guardian in the original container as prepared by a pharmacist and labeled with student’s name, medication, dosage, route and time to be given with all warnings and directions intact.

     

  • Over the Counter Medications must also be delivered to the school Health Center by the parent or guardian in the original packing with all directions, dosage and proportions clearly marked.

     

  • Emergency medications (inhalers, epipens,diabetic supplies) must be kept in the Health Center with the exception of a written permission from the physician stating that it is necessary for the child to have his/her medication with them at all times and that the child is capable of self administering in a responsible manner.  When bringing in breathing treatments please also include the tubing and mask.

     

  • Parents are responsible for picking up their child’s medication on the last day of school or signing a statement permitting the release of medication to the child.  All medications not picked up by the end of the school year will be destroyed.
